Idris Elba Eyes Director's Chair, Plans Acting Retirement

Idris Elba, a global box office success with films earning over $9.8 billion, has announced his intention to retire from acting. He expressed a strong desire to transition fully into directing, viewing it as an opportunity to engage with filmmaking in a different capacity. Elba finds directing allows him to 'flex slightly different muscles' compared to his acting career.

Beyond his filmmaking ambitions, the 53-year-old star is contemplating further education. He feels out of his depth in political discussions and is considering studying human sciences. This academic pursuit, he believes, would equip him better for his extensive philanthropy and activism efforts, enabling him to be more effective in engaging with issues and people.

Despite plans for retirement from acting, Elba's presence on screen is not entirely over yet. A new 'Luther' movie is reportedly in development, with filming scheduled to begin in February next year for Netflix, and will see the return of key cast members.
