11 Oct
Summary
- Idina Menzel struggled with low self-esteem post-childbirth while filming Glee.
- She felt self-conscious about her body and pumping milk during filming.
- Menzel accepted the role of Shelby Corcoran despite these personal challenges.

Idina Menzel, known for her role as Shelby Corcoran on Glee, recently spoke about the challenges she faced while filming the show soon after welcoming her son, Walker Nathaniel Diggs.
Menzel, who was 38 at the time, explained that she was still breastfeeding her son, who was only three months old, when she began her work on the popular series. This personal circumstance led to feelings of self-consciousness as she had to pump milk in her trailer while younger cast members were on set.
"All this weight and I couldn't fit into the costume," Menzel recalled, noting that her self-esteem was consequently low. The age difference between her character, Rachel Berry's biological mother, and Lea Michele, who played Rachel, also added to her discomfort, making her feel more like an older sister than a mother.
Despite these personal struggles, Menzel was motivated to join Glee because of her excitement to collaborate with showrunner Ryan Murphy and be part of a successful show. She welcomed her son Walker in September 2009 with then-husband Taye Diggs, and they have since maintained a cooperative co-parenting relationship focused on their child's well-being.
