Sunset Strip's Iconic Standard Hotel to Reopen with Luxury Twist

In 2025, the iconic Standard Hotel on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles is set to undergo a transformation. The hotel, known for its outrageous reputation, including upside-down signage, "Box Girl" performance art, and star-studded nights of debauchery, is being revived by hotelier Ian Schrager.

Schrager, who co-founded the legendary Studio 54 in New York, is bringing his expertise to the new hotel, Public West Hollywood. The 137-key property will offer a blend of luxury and accessibility, with a focus on creating a "luxury for all" experience. The hotel will feature a lushly landscaped, 16,000 square-foot open-air rooftop terrace with 360-degree views of Los Angeles, as well as a pool on the ground floor.

But the beating heart of the hotel will be its social-hub lobby and a new age nightclub, which Schrager promises will be "glamorous, sophisticated and the equivalent of a sealed-off soundstage with an incomparable immersive sound you can feel as well as hear." The hotel aims to fill the void left by the closure of the decadent disco hideaway, Giorgio's, and encourage "non-stop, hot, sweaty dancing."

With the West Hollywood Edition hotel about a mile down the Strip, Public West Hollywood will be Schrager's second L.A. hotel property, set to debut in the spring of 2026.
