An iconic music and TV production venue, The Pop Factory in Porth, Rhondda Cynon Taf, has been listed for sale. Originally a soft drinks factory dating back to the 1890s, it was transformed into a multimedia complex in 2000, officially opened by Sir Tom Jones.
The venue became a significant hub for live music and television, hosting performances from a wide array of artists such as Catatonia, Queens of the Stone Age, and Victoria Beckham. It also served as the birthplace for numerous TV shows, including one that launched Steve Jones's presenting career.
After being acquired by the charity Valleys Kids in 2012, The Pop Factory has continued to host arts, music, and community events. The charity now plans to sell the property to reallocate resources to its other initiatives.
A group comprising artists, organizations, and local residents, known as The Pop Factory Ltd, is working towards purchasing the site. Their objective is to secure community ownership and preserve the venue's legacy, aiming to raise £475,000, with a target of £250,000 by September from public donations and funding organizations.
