In the lead-up to the Lumiere Film Festival's International Classic Film Market (MIFC) in Lyon, Paris-based Tamasa Distribution has announced several exciting restoration and rerelease plans for classic French cinema.
The distributor is set to release a Blu-ray box set titled "Première Vague" on November 18th, featuring 7 early films by renowned director Claude Chabrol that have long been unavailable. The collection includes titles such as "Les Biches", "The Unfaithful Wife", and "This Man Must Die", all fully restored.
Tamasa is also planning to rerelease Claude Autant-Lara's 1961 masterpiece "You Shall Not Kill", which was censored shortly after its initial release. The film, awarded at the Venice Film Festival that year, has been restored in 4K and will soon be made available to audiences.
Additionally, the distributor is actively promoting the 4K restoration of Claire Devers' powerful 1986 debut "Noir et Blanc", a Caméra d'Or winner at Cannes. Tamasa is seeking new collaborators and distributors worldwide to bring this essential auteur film back into the spotlight.
The company's restoration efforts extend beyond these individual titles, as Tamasa has announced plans for a "Seconde Vague" of restorations to begin next spring, set for release in late 2026.
