The art world is witnessing a renaissance in comic art, highlighted by its inclusion in the Lucas Museum of Narrative Arts. To further this momentum, the ICON Festival of Comic & Narrative Art is launching on November 7 and 8.
The festival will be held at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, offering a two-day celebration of original art from prominent contemporary comic book artists. Attendees can expect to meet creators such as Nick Dragotta, Daniel Warren Johnson, Ryan Ottley, and Alex Ross. A significant exhibition will feature more than 100 original works by Alex Ross, known for his painted comic art.
Co-founders Sal Abbinanti and Steve Morger aim to establish a prestigious venue for comic art, drawing inspiration from European reverence for the medium. Abbinanti noted a desire for an event focused on artists and their original creations, distinct from larger conventions prioritizing cosplay and autographs. The Biltmore Hotel's grandeur is intended to underscore the seriousness and cultural relevance of comic art.
Limited tickets will be available to ensure an intimate experience, including an opening night VIP reception for mingling with artists. Passes, including VIP and two-day options, are on sale now. The VIP package features a unique signed giclée by Alex Ross, symbolizing the Biltmore and Old Hollywood.
