11 Apr
Summary
- Sir Ian McKellen suffered a fractured wrist and neck.
- He experienced a profound sense of horror and loss of control.
- McKellen hopes to return for a full theatrical run soon.

Sir Ian McKellen, 86, recently shared his profound feelings following a distressing onstage incident. In June 2024, he fell off the stage during a performance, an event he characterized as "very shocking business." This fall resulted in a fractured wrist and a neck injury, necessitating a three-day hospitalization and ending his participation in the London production of "Player Kings."
McKellen expressed that the experience left him with a deep "feeling of horror" and a fear of losing control over his actions. He recounted believing he was dying during the incident, an experience he never wishes to repeat. Although the fall was attributed to slipping on a piece of newspaper, he finds discussing it difficult.
Despite the challenging experience, McKellen has returned to film sets, even reprising his role as Magneto. He also participated in two one-off fundraiser performances. While these brief stage appearances were positive, he is actively seeking an opportunity for a more extensive theatrical run, with potential productions being explored in London.
