On the Netflix front, the streaming giant has greenlit a limited series adaptation of Wharton's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Emma Frost, known for her work on The White Queen and The White Princess, has been tapped to write the adaptation and serve as executive producer and showrunner. The series is being produced by Chernin Entertainment and is currently in pre-production, with plans to start filming in Europe this fall.
Wharton's The Age of Innocence was previously adapted for the big screen in 1993 by acclaimed director Martin Scorsese, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona Ryder. The upcoming Netflix series will offer a fresh take on the classic story.
