Hulu Pilot 'Chicks' Adds Stars Pompeo, Whittaker

A new Hulu pilot titled 'Chicks' is assembling its main cast, with Jason Schmidt, Julia Lester, and Piper Runge joining stars Ellen Pompeo and Jodie Whittaker. Max Winkler has also been attached as director and executive producer for the pilot episode.

The project, from writer and executive producer Katie Robbins, is described as a family dramedy. It is set in the historically gentrifying neighborhoods of old Boston and centers on Chickie, played by Pompeo, and Doreen, played by Whittaker.

These two estranged half-sisters find themselves struggling financially following the unexpected death of their father. Their only inheritance is a background of petty crime, which inspires them to engage in increasingly daring fraudulent schemes.

As their cons escalate, the sisters' unlikely bond strengthens. They begin to fill the void left by their father's absence in each other's lives. Schmidt will portray Sally, Jr., Lester will play Sinead, and Runge is cast as Lori.

'Chicks' is based on an original concept developed by Robbins for Pompeo, stemming from their collaboration on the Hulu limited series 'Good American Family.' Pompeo and Robbins are executive producing alongside Laura Holstein.
