Hull Gallery Acquires Striking New Artworks

The Ferens Art Gallery in Hull has announced the acquisition of two new contemporary artworks, expanding its permanent collection. The pieces, "Drift Ice" (2014) by Emma Stibbon and "Madame La Sirene" (2024) by Abe Odedina, were purchased using funds originally left by the gallery's founder, Thomas Ferens.
Both artworks were previously showcased in the "Sirens: Women and the Sea" exhibition held at the Ferens earlier this year. Abe Odedina, who studied architecture in Hull, draws inspiration from folk art and mythology, while Emma Stibbon, a Royal Academician, focuses on environments in transition.
Councillor Rob Pritchard expressed excitement over the new acquisitions, noting their role in continuing the gallery's legacy of maritime art. These additions to Hull's Designated Maritime Art collection provide fresh perspectives for the public to enjoy and engage with.
