Hot Wheels Honors Top Gun & Stranger Things

Hot Wheels is celebrating significant anniversaries for two beloved franchises: Top Gun and Stranger Things, with limited-edition die-cast vehicle sets. These collectibles immortalize iconic moments from both properties in meticulously crafted metal.

The Top Gun set commemorates the film's 40th anniversary by recreating a tense aerial confrontation. It includes scale versions of the F-14 Tomcat, featuring moveable wings, and the fictional MiG-28. These models are presented on a special stand, capturing a daring maneuver from the classic film.

For Stranger Things' 10th anniversary, a special edition set depicts the memorable scene where Eleven flips a van. This set includes the Hawkins Power and Light '83 Chevy Van and mini-figures of the main characters on their bikes. The packaging is designed to serve as a diorama of this pivotal moment.

Designers worked closely with the studios to ensure the accuracy of these models. For the Top Gun set, the MiG-28 was modeled after blueprints and screenshots, while the Stranger Things van and figures were recreated with input from Chevrolet and extensive show references. Even small details like character poses and clothing were carefully considered.

Unique Easter eggs were incorporated, such as a custom-drawn photo for the Top Gun set and a subtle "pi inches" measurement. The packaging for both sets also received special attention, designed as displayable dioramas that enhance the collectible value. These anniversary sets will be available starting July 23-26 at San Diego Comic-Con and through the Mattel Creations website.
