A prequel feature is actively being developed for the 2025 horror film 'Weapons'. Screenwriter Zach Shields, known for his work on the Monsterverse franchise, is collaborating with director Zach Cregger on the script for this upcoming project. Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema are behind the development of 'Gladys,' the working title for the prequel.
The original 'Weapons' film, released in August, captivated audiences by centering on a group of children who mysteriously disappear in the dead of night. The movie achieved considerable commercial success, earning $270 million at the global box office. Its cast included notable actors such as Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, and Amy Madigan.
Zach Cregger, who also directed the acclaimed horror film 'Barbarian' and is working on 'Resident Evil' for Sony, is set to produce the prequel. He will be joined by Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Miri Yoon. Shields, who recently contributed to 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,' is represented by Range Media Partners.
