A sequel to Na Hong-jin's recent alien action epic, "Hope," is officially in development, as confirmed by the director himself. Na announced during a press conference that a script for the follow-up film has already been written, and he is keen to direct it should the opportunity arise. The ambitious production, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, integrates a survival narrative with a unique science fiction mythology.
"Hope" features a notable international cast, including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon Jung, Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, and Cameron Britton. Fassbender, Vikander, and Russell portray CGI aliens engaged in an invasion of Earth. Vikander and Russell shared their motivations for joining the project, highlighting their admiration for Na's directorial talent and their desire to work on international films.
Vikander noted her long-standing appreciation for Asian cinema, which led her to accept Na's offer after he reached out years prior. Russell expressed a similar sentiment, viewing the opportunity to work with Na as a dream come true and expressing a desire to make more Korean films in the future. Fassbender humorously attributed his casting to Vikander's encouragement.
