The Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) and the Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) are collaborating for a second consecutive year to present a distinguished Hong Kong film program. Titled 'Together We Dare to Direct,' this showcase will run from November 30 to December 4 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, celebrating the rich tapestry of Hong Kong cinema across different generations.
The centerpiece of the festival is a masterclass led by Ann Hui, one of Asia's most influential female directors. Her work, alongside nine feature films and four short films, will be screened, highlighting diverse eras and genres. Two of Hui's own acclaimed films, 'A Simple Life' and 'July Rhapsody,' will be presented in newly restored 4K versions.
This collaboration, marking JAFF's 20th anniversary, aims to promote Asian cinema globally and reflects the evolving landscape of filmmaking. The program also features Q&A sessions with directors and film professionals, offering insights into the craft and discipline of directing, supported by Hong Kong's Creative Cultural Industries Development Agency and the Film Development Fund.
