Disney Live Action Studios has officially commenced early development for Hocus Pocus 3, with original stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy confirmed to return as the Sanderson sisters. This highly anticipated sequel is slated for a theatrical release, a departure from the straight-to-streaming model of Hocus Pocus 2. Jessica Virtue, EVP of Production, is overseeing the project for Disney Live Action.
The development of Hocus Pocus 3 faced a period of uncertainty after the former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, Sean Bailey, exited the company in 2024. Previously, in 2023, Bailey had announced plans for the third installment. Negotiations were reportedly halted due to salary disputes for the lead actresses, which have since been resolved, clearing the path for the trilogy's conclusion. Plot details remain undisclosed.
The original Hocus Pocus film debuted in 1993, introducing the Sanderson sisters resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts, who sought eternal life by draining the essence of children. Hocus Pocus 2, released in 2022, saw the sisters return for revenge, challenged by three high-school students. The potential return of original cast members like Omri Katz and Thora Birch has been a topic of discussion among fans.
