- The sign had been missing for over sixty years since the station closed.
- It is now displayed at Sharpe's Pottery Museum for a heritage event.
A significant piece of Swadlincote's industrial heritage, a historic railway sign from the former Swadlincote station, is now on public display. This large red sign had been missing for more than six decades following the station's closure. Its rediscovery came about by chance when it appeared for sale in an online auction.
The family who intended to sell the sign ultimately donated it, ensuring its preservation for the community. The sign is currently a focal point at Sharpe's Pottery Museum as part of the Swad Heritage Fest 2026. This event highlights the town's rich industrial history, a theme emphasized by local trustee Richard Haywood, who noted the prevalence of former pit, railway, and pottery workers in the area.
