A deeply personal memoir by Kiyoshi Tanimoto, a survivor of the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima, will be published for the first time this summer. Tanimoto wrote the 230-page account nearly 80 years ago, and it was recently discovered in a US archive.
The memoir's publication is timely, according to producer Donald Rosenfeld, especially with current global nuclear threats. He emphasized its importance in ensuring such an event never recurs.
The book's release on August 6, Hiroshima's anniversary, will feature a foreword by Tanimoto's daughter, Koko Tanimoto Kondo. A major film adaptation is also in development, with pre-production slated for November and filming in February 2027.
Tanimoto, a Hiroshima Methodist priest, was spared the initial blast as he was away transporting a wardrobe. He returned to find the city devastated. His daughter noted his belief that recording his experiences would help prevent future atrocities.
