6 Jul
Summary
- Showrunners created real websites for fictional show elements.
- Slapcountdown.com tracked the countdown to Barney's slap.
- TedMosbyIsAJerk.com featured a character's rants.
The creators of "How I Met Your Mother" actively developed real-world websites corresponding to fictional online platforms featured in the series. This initiative aimed to leverage the audience's engagement with television while simultaneously using laptops. One such creation was TedMosbyIsAJerk.com, which allowed viewers to access a character's written criticisms about Ted.
Additionally, the showrunners launched Slapcountdown.com in July 2007, a site featuring a countdown timer. This timer ultimately led to the "Slapsgiving" episode in Season 3, marking the precise moment Marshall delivered a slap to Barney. This concept originated from a previous episode, "Slap Bet," where Marshall earned five slaps against Barney.
