Filming for Chad Stahelski's highly anticipated Highlander reboot is officially underway at Scotland's Eilean Donan Castle. Recent set photos offer a glimpse of WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre and Kevin McKidd in their roles. Henry Cavill is set to portray the immortal warrior Connor MacLeod, while Karen Gillan takes on the part of his first wife, Heather MacLeod.
Drew McIntyre has temporarily stepped away from his WWE career to participate in the production. This project also marks a reunion for McIntyre and Dave Bautista, who previously co-starred in "The Killer's Game" earlier this year. Filmmaker Stahelski's action team worked on that movie, suggesting a positive working relationship.
The plot centers on Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior living in hiding centuries after his initial death in Scotland. His quiet existence is disrupted when the ruthless immortal Kurgan reappears, backed by a clandestine organization seeking the secret to eternal life. Connor is compelled to re-enter "The Game," an ancient battle where only one can survive.
Guided by his mentor Ramírez and archaeologist Kate Bennett, Connor must confront his past. The film, written by Michael Finch, features a star-studded cast including Dave Bautista, Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and Drew McIntyre. The movie is slated for a theatrical release next year.
