In a major announcement, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima revealed plans for an original animated series based on his "Death Stranding" franchise. The new project, titled "Death Stranding Isolations" (working title), is set to debut exclusively on Disney+ in 2027.
Kojima, who established Kojima Productions in 2015, appeared alongside series director Sano Takayuki at the Disney+ originals Asia Pacific preview event held at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. The two unveiled the animated series, which will tell an entirely new story set within the "Death Stranding" universe, separate from the video games' narrative.
The animated project will follow a young man and woman on an adventure, rendered in traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. Japan's E&H production is handling the animation, with character designs by Ilya Kuvshinov, who previously worked on "Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045."
Kojima will serve as executive producer on the series, marking Kojima Productions' first partnership with a global streaming platform. The original "Death Stranding" video game, launched in 2019, has attracted more than 20 million players worldwide and recently expanded with the release of "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach" exclusively on PlayStation 5.
