Walt Disney Animation's upcoming film, Hexed, showcases a punk rock witch protagonist named Billie. Originally conceived in August 2025 with a male lead, the filmmakers made a significant shift to a teenage girl. This change is highlighted by co-writer Jared Bush, who noted the potential for comparisons to other popular young male wizard stories.
Voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, who felt a deeper connection to the story as a new mother, Billie embarks on an adventure in the secret witch realm of "Hexe." Her mother, Alice, voiced by Rashida Jones, joins her on this journey, promising an emotional narrative. The film's antagonist, Celeste, is portrayed by Jodie Foster.
Further enriching the cast is Walton Goggins as Beef Roger, a retired cat familiar. The visual style of Hexed is said to be partly inspired by Chainsaw Man, adding to its modern and exciting approach. The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 25.
