Werner Herzog's new documentary, "Ghost Elephants," takes viewers on an expedition into the highlands of Angola. The film follows National Geographic Explorer Steve Boyes as he pursues elusive 'ghost elephants.'
Premiering at the Venice Film Festival last year, "Ghost Elephants" is set for a limited theatrical release on February 27, 2026. Following its cinema debut, the documentary will be broadcast on National Geographic on March 7, 2026. Viewers can stream the film on Disney+ and Hulu starting March 8, 2026.
The trailer features Herzog joining Boyes and a team, including KhoiSan trackers, on this quest for the mythical creatures. The expedition is described as a pursuit of the unknown, much like hunting a white whale. A nationwide theatrical simulcast with a Q&A session featuring Herzog and Boyes is scheduled for the night before the film's theatrical release.
