2 Apr
Summary
- Film production halted due to ongoing legal disputes.
- Writer Rohan Shankar uncertain about future involvement.
- Rights ownership contested in Madras High Court.

The highly anticipated film, Hera Pheri 3, is currently facing extensive production delays, with its future uncertain due to ongoing legal entanglements. Writer Rohan Shankar revealed in a recent interview that the project remains in limbo because of court battles. Shankar, who was in talks to join the film, expressed that legal issues prevented his involvement, leaving the door open only if director Priyadarshan is also involved.
Director Priyadarshan, known for his prolific work ethic, is currently juggling multiple film commitments, including projects with Mohanlal and other recent shoots. Shankar noted that Priyadarshan's busy schedule could mean several other films are completed before Hera Pheri 3 even begins production, highlighting the complex nature of the delay.
The primary cause of the delay is a legal dispute initiated in the Madras High Court. Seven Arts International Limited has challenged producer Firoz Nadiadwala's rights, asserting he was authorized for only one Hindi remake of the 1989 Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking, which was the original Hera Pheri. Seven Arts claims Nadiadwala exceeded these rights by producing the sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, in 2006 and selling rights for a third installment.
Director Priyadarshan himself confirmed the production halt, stating that clarity on ownership of film and music rights is essential before filming can resume. He indicated that filming would definitely not occur this year, as the franchise, which began in 2000, remains on hold due to these unresolved ownership disputes.
