Hema Malini accepted the Padma Vibhushan award posthumously for her late husband, Dharmendra, at a ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. President Droupadi Murmu presented the honour during the first civil investiture ceremony of 2026. Dharmendra, a towering figure in Indian cinema known as the "He-Man," passed away in Mumbai on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89.
His award acknowledges his extensive contributions to Indian cinema over more than sixty years. Hema Malini, visibly moved, received the award on behalf of her family. Their daughter Ahana was also present and became emotional during the presentation. The ceremony honoured various luminaries, including late actor Satish Shah, singer Alka Yagnik, and Prosenjit Chatterjee.
Ahead of the event, Hema Malini shared that the honour was deeply emotional for the entire family, including Dharmendra's sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and her daughters Esha and Ahana.
