Hela: Of Mice & Magic, an upcoming open-world co-op game, has garnered significant attention for its whimsical premise and engaging gameplay. Players take on the role of a familiar assisting a witch by collecting ingredients to brew potions for the townsfolk.
The game's movement system blends the feel of third-person action games with the agility of a rodent, enhanced by a magical backpack for gliding and swinging. Inspiration from games like Skate and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is evident in its creative traversal options.
Developed by Windup Games, a studio with industry veterans, Hela: Of Mice & Magic draws inspiration from Scandinavian folklore. It supports up to four players in drop-in/out co-op, accessible via split-screen or online multiplayer, allowing for freedom of movement and quick regrouping.
Players will encounter puzzles requiring lateral thinking, solvable solo with clones or cooperatively with friends. The potion-crafting system, likened to Ratatouille, involves actively managing ingredients and tools in a cauldron.
Originally slated for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, the game's launch might be pushed to 2027.
