24 Mar
Summary
- HBO Max is developing medical dramas in Spain and France.
- The strategy is inspired by the success of 'The Pitt'.
- New European shows are in development before 'The Pitt'.

HBO Max is venturing into new territory with the development of two medical dramas, one in France and another in Spain. This expansion into European original programming draws creative inspiration from the successful HBO series, 'The Pitt'. The development strategy emphasizes creator-driven authenticity within familiar genres, aiming to replicate the popular appeal of 'The Pitt'.
These upcoming European hospital dramas were in development even before 'The Pitt' was conceived, highlighting a forward-thinking approach by HBO Max. The company seeks to emulate the model of 'The Pitt,' which has achieved critical acclaim and commercial success by featuring relatable characters in compelling, hero-driven roles within the hospital setting.
In addition to the medical dramas, HBO Max announced a first-look deal with former Movistar content chief Domingo Corral. They also revealed upcoming projects including a German crime series based on the Struwwelpeter books and a Polish drama titled 'Proud.' Filming for the Struwwelpeter series is currently underway in Germany, featuring actors Lisa Vicari and Peter Kurth.
Regarding industry speculation, HBO Max's Head of Original Programming, Sarah Aubrey, declined to comment directly on potential mergers with Paramount+. However, she expressed confidence in the long-term commitment of stakeholders to content creation and the industry.
