Child Star's 'Guiding Light' Role: A Wild Ride

Hayden Panettiere, known for her later roles in 'Heroes' and 'Nashville,' launched her acting career on the iconic soap opera 'Guiding Light.' She appeared on the program, which ran on television from 1952 to 2009, from December 1996 to 2000. Panettiere played Lizzie Spaulding, a character who experienced exceptionally dramatic plotlines.

These storylines included Lizzie accidentally causing a man's death, leading to terrifying hallucinations. She was also abducted by a serial kidnapper known as the Nursery Rhyme Stalker and later survived a severe car crash, only to be diagnosed with leukemia. Panettiere recalled these experiences humorously in a 2012 interview.

Panettiere has described her time on 'Guiding Light' as a deeply formative experience during her childhood years. She emphasized the constant presence of the character in her daily life from ages four to twelve. The actress also expressed fondness for her former adult co-stars, maintaining a familial connection with them.
