- New co-showrunner Jon Brown joins Francesca Gardiner for season two.

HBO has given a green light for a second season of its Harry Potter television adaptation, months prior to the premiere of the initial season. Production for the second season is slated to begin in autumn 2026. The network's vision is to adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling's novels, dedicating one season to each book over a projected decade-long run. Jon Brown, who contributed to the first season, will now serve as co-showrunner with Francesca Gardiner.
Gardiner stated that the decision to appoint a co-showrunner was driven by the need to maintain production momentum amidst overlapping schedules for seasons one and two. Filming for the first eight-episode season, titled 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone,' commenced in July 2025 and is nearing completion. The series features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, selected from over 30,000 children in open casting. The first trailer for the series became HBO's most-watched trailer in history.
