Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has lauded Suresh Triveni's newly released film, 'Subedaar,' describing it as a bold and refreshing take on the action drama genre. Mehta observed that Triveni successfully revitalizes the essence of classic Hindi cinema, infusing it with a contemporary perspective. The film evokes the intensity of the 'angry young man' era, drawing parallels to iconic movies such as 'Zanjeer' and 'Deewar.'
Mehta expressed surprise and admiration that Triveni, known for lighter films like 'Tumhari Sulu,' ventured into this genre. He highlighted Triveni's courage in stepping outside his comfort zone to pay homage to the distinct style of 80s filmmaking through smart writing and powerful performances. Mehta specifically commended Anil Kapoor and Radhika Madan, stating Madan deserves better cinematic opportunities for her courageous portrayal of a complex character.
