The title track for David Dhawan's upcoming film 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', starring Varun Dhawan, was meticulously recreated and recorded within an astonishing 48-hour period, concluding just 10 days before the teaser's debut. Music composers Javed-Mohsin have shared the intricate journey behind this swift creation.
The song is inspired by the memorable hook line 'Ishq Chandi Hai, Ishq Sona Hai' from David Dhawan's 1990 film 'Biwi No. 1'. Director David Dhawan envisioned a grand, festival-like atmosphere with mass appeal, tailored for the youth and Gen Z while incorporating nostalgic elements and live music.
Javed-Mohsin transformed the original Bollywood track into a modern house music genre, integrating contemporary and traditional instruments. Varun Dhawan was actively involved, spending two nights in the studio to perfect live brass, strings, backup vocals, and rap. The song retains original singers Shankar Mahadevan and Hema Sardesai, with composer Annu Malik also credited.
Recreating a beloved song presented a unique challenge, according to the composers, balancing its established popularity with the risk of potential missteps. They expressed delight with the final output, confident the audience will appreciate the blend of nostalgia and contemporary rap, featuring artists Ranj and Earl Edgar. The film, also starring Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur, is set for a worldwide release on May 22.
