Summary
- Devaiah finds growing obsession with beards tiring.
- Actor criticizes hyper-masculine personas in films.
- He calls for more clean-shaven and nuanced male leads.

Bollywood actor Gulshan Devaiah has candidly expressed his fatigue with the prevailing trend of ultra-macho leading men in Indian cinema. He specifically noted his dislike for the ubiquitous beards and hyper-masculine personas that have become commonplace, drawing parallels to the widespread imitation of styles seen in films like 'Pushpa'. Devaiah believes this trend can be tiresome and questions the necessity for every leading man to adopt such an image.
Devaiah shared his perspective during a recent interview, where he also touched upon the blurring lines between protagonists and antagonists. He emphasized his preference for exploring character nuances rather than relying solely on surface-level intensity. The actor cited the positive reception of his character Atmaram in 'Guns & Gulaabs' as an example of how audiences connect with complex, even morally grey, characters, while reminding them not to overlook the flaws within these figures.
His powerful performance as King Kulashekara in 'Kantara Chapter 1' earned him significant praise. The film, directed by Rishab Shetty, achieved substantial box-office success, becoming the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 with Rs 851 crore. Devaiah was most recently seen in the series 'Perfect Family', currently streaming on YouTube.
