Ex-Rockstar Dev: AI Could Rush GTA VI PC
6 Nov
Summary
- AI decompilation could pressure Rockstar for faster PC release.
- Previous Rockstar games saw delayed PC ports after console launches.
- GTA VI PC release is reportedly targeted for early 2027.

A former Rockstar Games tech director believes artificial intelligence could expedite the PC release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Obbe Vermeij, who left Rockstar in 2009, expressed concern that AI tools could decompile the console version, potentially forcing Rockstar to accelerate its official PC port. This contrasts with Rockstar's past strategy, where PC versions of major titles often launched months or years after their console debut.
Vermeij highlighted how AI-powered reverse engineering presents a new challenge. While decompiling a game as complex as GTA VI would be difficult, he speculated it could cost tens of thousands of dollars in tokens. Despite potential limitations, the resulting port might satisfy some players and prompt Rockstar to shorten the release window between console and PC versions. The developer is reportedly targeting the first quarter of 2027 for the GTA VI PC release.
