Summary
- PS4 and Xbox One GTA V players can upgrade for free.
- Free PC upgrade available for GTA V Enhanced Edition.
- GTA VI trailer expected this summer, release date Nov 19.
Starting June 18, 2026, Grand Theft Auto V players on PlayStation 4 and the digital Xbox One edition can receive a free upgrade to the enhanced PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. This current-generation version, initially released in March 2022, offers visual improvements and faster gameplay mechanics.
PC players can also benefit from a free upgrade to the Enhanced edition of Grand Theft Auto V. This edition includes PC-exclusive features like ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination, alongside the console enhancements.
The introduction of free upgrades for newer consoles and PCs might indicate Rockstar's plan to phase out support for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Grand Theft Auto Online, similar to past actions on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Fans are eagerly awaiting news on Grand Theft Auto VI. Following previous delays, the game is still slated for a November 19 release. Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, announced that marketing for GTA VI will increase this summer, making a new trailer highly anticipated.
