Summary
- GTA 6 will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
- The game is confirmed for a November 19, 2026 worldwide release.
- A PC version is anticipated between late 2027 and mid-2028.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to be a major gaming launch, but players on older consoles will be unable to experience it. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the title will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
This decision stems from the game's advanced technical requirements. GTA 6 features a vast, hyper-realistic world demanding the processing power and high-speed SSDs found only in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Older consoles, nearly 15 years old, would struggle to run the game smoothly.
The official release date for Grand Theft Auto VI is November 19, 2026, a pushback from earlier 2025 and May 2026 windows to ensure optimal performance. This date strategically places it within the prime Christmas shopping season.
While Rockstar Games has not officially announced a PC version, one is considered inevitable. Based on past releases like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, a PC port is realistically expected between late 2027 and mid-2028, allowing for extensive optimization.
