Director Gregg Araki has unveiled a meticulously restored 4K version of his 2003 film, "Mysterious Skin," employing DaVinci Resolve to refine details that had bothered him over two decades. Araki stated he is a "better filmmaker" now, using digital tools to fix issues like framing and visual effects.
The restored "Mysterious Skin" is slated for a national theatrical release in 2026, with screenings planned at notable venues like the IFC Center in New York and Vidiots in Los Angeles. International sales and a French release are also scheduled for 2026.
Araki discovered DaVinci Resolve's potential during the making of his latest feature, "I Want Your Sex." He applied similar digital manipulation techniques to "Mysterious Skin," touching up nearly every shot to improve visual elements and color timing.
