The restored "Mysterious Skin" is slated for a national theatrical release in 2026, with screenings planned at notable venues like the IFC Center in New York and Vidiots in Los Angeles. International sales and a French release are also scheduled for 2026.
Araki discovered DaVinci Resolve's potential during the making of his latest feature, "I Want Your Sex." He applied similar digital manipulation techniques to "Mysterious Skin," touching up nearly every shot to improve visual elements and color timing.
