Greenbelt Festival Pauses for 2027 to Find New Home
15 Jun
Summary
- Greenbelt festival will not hold a full event in 2027.
- Organizers need more time to secure a new venue for growth.
- The festival plans to return in 2028 after a one-year break.

The Greenbelt faith, arts, and music festival is taking a hiatus for its 2027 events to secure a new, long-term home. Organizers have been searching extensively for a suitable venue that will allow the festival to "grow and evolve" after its final event at Boughton House in Northamptonshire over the August Bank Holiday weekend. This break is considered necessary to ensure the festival's future flourishing rather than settling for a suboptimal location.
Creative director Paul Northup emphasized that the search is for more than just a site, but a place where Greenbelt can be "more imaginative, more rooted, more sustainable, more accessible." The festival, launched 52 years ago, has relocated seven times previously, with escalating infrastructure costs at rural sites contributing to the decision. While a full festival is cancelled for 2027, community camping and online activities are anticipated.
Greenbelt is scheduled to return in full in 2028. Organizers are confident that taking this time will allow them to find a location that best serves the festival's audience, artists, partners, and future generations of attendees, ensuring a successful continuation of its legacy.
