Born Curtis Jones, Green Velvet first gained recognition in the early '90s as Cajmere, releasing influential tracks like "Brighter Days" and "Percolator." He also founded Cajual Records and Relief Records, which became pillars of Chicago's house music community.
Under the Green Velvet alias, he produced club anthems such as "Flash" and "La La Land." "Flash" achieved chart success, reaching the top of Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. DJ Mag recognized his impact by naming him Best DJ in North America twice, in 2017 and again in 2022.
Green Velvet maintains a forward-looking perspective, telling Billboard in 2023 that his best work is still ahead. He has continued to release new material, including a May 2026 collaboration with MEDUZA, GENESI, and ESSENTIA on "La La Land," followed by a June 2026 team-up with Detlef on "Bounce UR Body."
