The cookbook also includes a foreword by Mollie Katzen, known for her influential vegetarian cookbook, "Moosewood Cookbook." Moskowitz, who is best known for her budget-friendly cooking blog "BrokeAss Gourmet," has crafted a collection of recipes inspired by the Grateful Dead community and the food that fueled their movement of unity and kindness.
In a recent review, Rolling Stone's Angie Martoccio praised the cookbook, particularly the "avocado brownies, which contain no butter, vegetable oil, or refined sugar." Moskowitz describes these as the "platonic ideal of a brownie: ultra-rich, fudgy, and moist." The review also notes that the author's culinary creations were accompanied by the soothing sounds of the Grateful Dead's "Blues for Allah (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)."
"Dead in the Kitchen" is the latest in a series of Grateful Dead-related culinary collaborations, joining the likes of a Slowtide and Grateful Dead kitchen towel, a Hedley & Bennett apron, and the classic Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor, Cherry Garcia.
