Launched on April 16, the new 'Play Dead' app provides Grateful Dead fans with high-resolution streaming access to the band's extensive live vault. Developed in collaboration with Rhino Entertainment, the service offers around 300 concerts, incorporating many releases previously only available physically, such as the Dave's Picks series. This initiative represents a significant expansion of archival material available to fans.
Subscriptions for Play Dead are priced at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, with bundle options for existing nugs subscribers. The app ensures a superior audio experience, exceeding CD quality with a minimum threshold of 24-bit, 48kHz. This high fidelity extends to previously released archival recordings which have been optimized for the platform.
The 'Play Dead' app aims to deliver a listening experience akin to being present at the original concerts. It allows for playlist creation, curated selections, and offline listening, offering a more interactive and immersive way to engage with the Grateful Dead's vast musical history beyond the band's ongoing physical releases.
