'Mfinda' is a co-production between GKIDS, the Oscar-winning producers and distributors, Viola Davis and Julius Tennon's JuVee Productions, and legendary anime producer Masao Maruyama. The film, created by Patience Lekien and Christiano Terry, follows a 13-year-old Congolese girl who is transported to the mystical Mfinda forest, where she meets another young girl and embarks on a journey to find a magical artifact that could help her return home.
Masego, known for his unique blend of jazz, R&B, hip-hop, and electronic music, is said to be working on a score that blends timeless and forward-leaning elements. As a self-proclaimed anime aficionado, the artist is excited to lend his creative vision to the project, stating that "Black anime is my internal world" and that he is honored to be part of crafting a sound that the culture will be proud of.
The film's co-writer, Christiano Terry, expressed his excitement about collaborating with Masego, calling him "one of my favorite artists of all time" and stating that they hope the audience will experience music in 'Mfinda's score that they'll never forget.
