Brazil's Gramado Film Festival, one of the nation's oldest and largest cinematic events, will celebrate the growing international recognition of its actors. Honorees Selton Mello and María Fernanda Cândido represent the rising global profile of Brazilian cinema.
The festival will open with the premiere of 'Antártida,' a drama set at a South Pole base, produced by Globo and helmed by Bruno Safadi. This unique setting contrasts with Brazil's tropical image and showcases the country's diverse storytelling.
Six Brazilian features are competing for the main Kikito prize, including five world premieres. Among them is "Gugu's World," which previously won best film at Berlin's Generation KPlus. The festival's documentary section also features four notable films.
Gramado will also host the anticipated Brazilian premiere of 'Emergência 53,' an episodic drama lauded for its artistic ambition and international potential at the Berlinale Series Market. The festival aims for inclusivity with audio description and Brazilian Sign Language interpretation for all competitive features.
