HBO has greenlit two additional seasons for its upcoming "Game of Thrones" prequel, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight." The series, based on George R.R. Martin's "Tales of Dunk and Egg" novellas, is set to premiere on January 18, 2026, with its second season scheduled for a 2027 debut. This significant renewal underscores the network's confidence in the show's potential.
"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a hedge knight, and his squire Egg, approximately a century before the events of "Game of Thrones." The announcement was made during a press event where HBO also confirmed a fourth season for "House of the Dragon," another "Game of Thrones" prequel, which will see its third season air in summer 2026.
Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming, expressed excitement about delivering new seasons for the next three years, emphasizing the expansive nature of Martin's universe. The cast includes Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, alongside a notable ensemble.
