Gorillaz Star Urges 'Don't Be Neutral' Amid Tour Controversy

During a recent performance in Florida, Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn delivered a strong message to the audience, urging them to "stand your position" and "never be neutral." This statement has been interpreted as a response to the recent controversy surrounding rapper Macklemore's removal from Ed Sheeran's tour.

The incident involving Macklemore has drawn attention to the artists' stances on the ongoing conflict. Gorillaz themselves have previously engaged in activism related to the Israel-Palestine issue, including performing at a benefit concert for Palestinian organizations in 2025. During that event, Albarn openly questioned the audience about their support for Palestine and their views on the war.

Macklemore, addressing his removal from Sheeran's tour, stated that while he was not a victim, he felt it important to share his truth. He acknowledged that Ed Sheeran and his team made the decision. Sheeran, in a subsequent show, expressed his stance, describing the situation as a humanitarian issue. He condemned the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel as horrific and acknowledged centuries of Jewish pain, while also calling the events in Gaza catastrophic and unjustifiable.

Sheeran emphasized his usual aim to promote unity through his music and shows, but felt unable to remain silent on this humanitarian crisis. He acknowledged the pain of Jewish people following the Oct. 7 attacks while also decrying the disproportionate response in Gaza.
