This decision saw the film triumph over other prominent submissions, including the Hindi productions 'Dhurandhar' and the recently popular 'Hanuman Ansh'.
Directed by Santosh Davakhar, who previously earned a Silver Peacock Award at IFFI 2025, 'Gondhal' faced competition from a diverse slate of 33 films. These included numerous Hindi films alongside entries in Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, Malayalam, and Nagamese, as well as a silent film. The prestigious 99th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on March 14, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
