Summary
- Filmmaker to direct Vendée Globe solo race drama.
- Sailor rescues competitor in hurricane-force winds.
- Production begins fall 2026 with existing financing.

A new film, "The Godforsaken Sea," will bring the intense 1996-1997 Vendée Globe solo ocean race to the screen. Director Camille Delamarre plans to capture the "full scale and intensity" of the race, where elite sailors circumnavigate the globe alone and non-stop.
The film centers on British sailor Pete Goss's memoir, "Close to the Wind." During the race, Goss famously turned back into hurricane-force winds and towering waves to rescue fellow competitor Raphaël Dinelli after his boat capsized.
This true story of survival and humanity is set to begin production in Belgium in fall 2026. Financing from JR Films and strategic brand partnerships are already in place, with casting currently underway for the project.
