Ed Skrein, recognized for his role in Jurassic World Rebirth, has been cast as the primary antagonist in Prime Video's adaptation of God of War. He will portray Baldur, described as Odin's most dangerous weapon, who is cursed to feel no pleasure or physical sensation, fueling his rage. Baldur seeks a worthy opponent to feel something again.
The series will adapt the narrative of recent God of War games, focusing on the Spartan warrior Kratos and his young son, Atreus. Their journey involves spreading the ashes of Faye, Kratos's wife and Atreus's mother. During their adventures, Kratos aims to guide Atreus in becoming a better god, while Atreus endeavors to teach his father about being a better human.
Ronald D. Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica, is the showrunner for the series, which has a two-season commitment. Frederick E.O. Toye, an Emmy-winning director, will helm the initial episodes. Other cast members include Callum Vinson as Atreus and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.
