The Goa Carnival's curtain raiser event in Porvorim embraced a nostalgic vision, forgoing modern elements for traditional ones. Bullock carts substituted fuel-powered vehicles, and live musical instruments replaced loudspeakers, harkening back to yesteryears. Minister for tourism Rohan Khaunte inaugurated the festivities, proclaiming "Viva Carnival" and highlighting the festival's role in promoting communal harmony.
This year's celebration aimed to recapture the essence of past Carnivals, as noted by participants who recalled similar events from their childhood. The absence of commercial floats and the presence of traditional attire contributed to the vintage ambiance. A replica of a KTC bus also drew crowds, offering a unique interactive experience for attendees.
