The Pop Up Film Residency announced its latest cohort of eight participants for summer residencies across Europe. This initiative, founded in 2018, has already supported over 150 filmmakers worldwide with individualized mentorship programs.
The residencies offer a unique, collaborative approach, typically including a three-week onsite stay followed by at least a year of mentoring. The program's reach is extensive, with hosts active in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Matthieu Darras, founder and director, highlighted the program's global network, featuring Iranian filmmakers in Paris, Japanese directors in France, Rwandan Swiss talent in Lithuania, and Palestinian voices in Rome. Canadian, Slovenian, Lithuanian, and Ethiopian filmmakers are also participating in residencies across various European locations.
Specific projects selected include 'Shooting Stars' from Iran, 'The Fortunate' from Ethiopia, 'Beaver Song' from Lithuania/France, and 'Child, Uninvited' from Japan. Other featured works are 'The Zebra's Shadow' (Rwanda/Switzerland), 'We Are Still Screaming' and 'Forbidden Fruit' (Slovenia), 'Reverend' (Canada), and 'America is Behind the Door' (Palestine).
