The global box office revenue has surged past the $4 billion milestone, driven by an exceptionally strong August. In the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, cinema admissions saw an impressive 88% rise compared to the previous year. This marks the eighth consecutive month of double-digit growth for these territories.
France recorded its highest August admissions since records began in 1980, with 19.9 million moviegoers. Italy also celebrated its best-ever summer period from June to August, achieving 20.8 million admissions. Markets like Spain, the Netherlands, and the UK & Ireland also reported significant year-on-year increases.
This box office boom is credited to successful international blockbusters and popular local productions. "Audiences across Europe turned out in huge numbers for major releases, once again showing the extraordinary ability of cinemas to bring people together," stated Laura Houlgatte, CEO of UNIC. The strong figures were presented at the Lumière Summit in France, affirming the public's enthusiasm for the big screen experience.
